UHS Board approves new policy for postgraduate programmes
LAHORE:The 204th meeting of the Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) was held on Thursday, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathore, in which three students were awarded PhD degrees in different fields of medical sciences.
The recipients of the PhD degrees included Dr Atika Masood in Morbid Anatomy and Histopathology, Dr Rabia Anjum in Oral Pathology, and Dr Farhana Shahzad in Immunology. According to UHS regulations, the theses of these students were evaluated by foreign experts, and their research findings have been published in HEC-approved journals.
In addition, the Board approved a new policy for postgraduate programmes. Under this policy, any postgraduate programme, including PhDs, involving foreign training or fellowships, must receive initial approval from the ASRB. UHS will enter into collaborative agreements with foreign universities on behalf of the students, who can then proceed with their fellowship abroad.
The board considered 36 reports on theses submitted by the students, including Dr Zill-e-Huma PhD (Microbiology), Dr Iqra Dastgeer MPhil (Haematology), Aafshar Khalid MPhil (Immunology), Dr Ghanwa Saeed MPhil (Immunology), Maria Mehmood MPhil (Microbiology), Dr Urooj Waseem MPhil (Science of Dental Materials), Dr Fatima MS (Anaesthesia), Dr Sobia MS (Anaesthesia), Dr Uswa MS (Anaesthesia), Dr Sehrish MS (Cardiac Surgery), Dr Sonia MS (Cardiac Surgery), Dr Irfan Nabi MS (General Surgery), Dr M Gohar MS (General Surgery), Dr Asmet MS (General Surgery), Kalsoom MS (Nursing), Dr Salman MS (Neurosurgery), Dr Abdul Wajid MS (Neurosurgery), Dr Shahnawaz Ahmad MS (Orthopedics), Dr Sadaf MS (Obst & Gynae), Dr Aisha MS (Ophthalmology), Dr Hanan MS (Pediatrics Surgery), Dr M Imran Khadim MS (Urology), Dr Mirza Adnan MD (Cardiology), Dr Nazim Hussain MD (Gastroenterology), Dr Hafiz Faizan Lateef MD (Internal Medicine), Dr Farwa Nazir MD (Internal Medicine), Dr Abeera Yaseen MD (lnternal Medicine), Dr Asad Ahmed MD (Paediatrics), Dr Imran Shahid MPhil (Haematology), Dr Jamshaid Ali MPhil (Haematology), Dr Muhammad Omair MS (Anaesthesia), Dr M Ibrar Aslam MS (General Surgery), Dr Humaira Naseem MS (General Surgery), Dr Farrukh Fazal MS (Orthopaedics), Dr Hurera Pervez MDS (Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery) and Dr Sana Tariq MS (Neurosurgery). The synopses of 39 students were also considered for registration to various postgraduate courses in the meeting.
