Achakzai calls for body to keep an eye on parliament, judiciary, army
ISLAMABAD: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai on Thursday said the country needed an independent organisation for transparent and across-the-board accountability of parliament, judiciary and the army, adding that the time has now come to bury the past.
Speaking in the National Assembly (NA) on the Panama Leaks, he said that corruption of the major curses in the country that should be completely eliminated by establishing an empowered and independent organisation for accountability of the corrupt elements.
He demanded that resolution should be tabled in the joint sitting of the parliament to declare Pakistan a corruption-free country. He said that unfortunately all were involved in corruption and demanded their accountability.
Achakzai also criticised double standard of western countries for raising voice against human rights violations but at the same time providing safe havens for black money and plundered wealth. He demanded of the United Nations to set up international body to take action against countries providing safe havens for money laundering and illegal transfer of money.
He said that both domestic and foreign policy should be originated from the parliament and advocated good relations with all neighbors including Afghanistan and India. Sahibzada Tariqullah of Jamaat-e-Islami said that his party would bring anti-corruption bill to stop illegal means of accumulating wealth through corruption and sought help from opposition and treasury benches to pass the bill. He demanded ruthless and across the board accountability of people from all walks of life involved in corruption including names appeared in Panama leaks.
