K-Electric (KE) on Wednesday issued a statement categorically denying claims of an 18-hour power outage at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). The power utility maintained that the outage was only for two hours and implied that the rest of the period was most likely due to internal faults at the hospital.

The recent reports, read the statement, fail to take into account the on-ground situation at the hospital which has been suffering internal electricity faults. It also noted that the duration that supply was affected “did not last more than two hours in total”.

The statement added that the hospital faced a disruption in supply that was intermittent but did not last for 18 hours.

“KE teams responded on priority by back-feeding JPMC, as has always been the case for strategic installations. The cause of disruption was eventually traced back to internal faults, where some internal construction is underway. The hospital was only facing partial outages in some wards on Tuesday morning, implying that the backend supply by KE was normal,” read the statement.

“As per our information no operation was postponed, let alone a hundred, as reported. Even though the fault was internal, our teams were available to facilitate the JPMC staff, going above and beyond our duty and jurisdiction to ensure speedy restoration.”

We continue to work closely with the JPMC team to ensure smooth supply, the statement concluded.
