Troops will assist the Punjab Police in maintenance of law and order
LAHORE: The Punjab government has requisitioned the services of the Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers to ensure peace during Muharram.
Troops will assist the Punjab Police in maintenance of law and order. In total, the services of 150 companies have been sought by the federal interior ministry.
The spokesman of the Punjab Home Department has said 69 companies of the Pakistan Army and 81 companies of the Pakistan Rangers have been sought for security across Punjab. Troops have been requisitioned in different districts as per the requirement from 1st to 12th Muharram.
The spokesperson informed that the government had empowered deputy commissioners for gagging and banning people who ignite sectarianism and hatred in the society. Similarly, the administration has been asked to share details of locations where mobile signals need to be jammed around Majaalis and processions.
