LAHORE: Pakistan snooker team, featuring Asjad Iqbal and Awais Ullah Munir, on Friday finished with a silver medal when they were beaten by Thailand in straight frames in the final of the ACBS Asian 15 Red Men's Team Snooker Championship in Riyadh.
The Pakistani duo failed to extend any praiseworthy resistance and were outclassed in a one-sided show. Thailand, carrying Kritsanut Lertsattayathorn and Dechawat Poomjaeng, also fired a break of 61 in the third frame. The frame scores were 61-4, 75-53, 90-26 (61).
Earlier, Pakistan team defeated Hong Kong 3-1 in the semi-final with the frame scores of 47-72, 88-40, 99-0(99), 82-28. Pakistan also managed a super break of 99 in the third frame. Pakistan had begun this event with a two back-to-back wins against Saudi Arabia and Myanmar on the first day to qualify for the quarter-finals.
And there the Green-shirts conquered India 3-0 to blast their way into the pre-final. Pakistan during the event won two gold medals, two silver and one bronze.
It was a historic event for the debutant Mohammad Hasnain Akhtar who downed Ahsan Ramzan 4-3 in the Asian 15 Red Under-21 Championship to win the title on his debut. Awais on the other hand defeated Hong Kong's Nansen Wan 6-3 in the Asian 6 Red Snooker Championship final to wear the crown.
