Street criminal awarded seven years in jail
A sessions court has sentenced a street criminal to seven years in prison for committing a robbery. Muhammad Ammar was found guilty of robbing Rizwan Saleem and his nephew Faizan of Rs73,000 and a mobile phone within the jurisdiction of the Zaman Town police station in December 2021.
Additional Sessions Judge (East) Shahid Ali Memon pronounced his order after recording evidence and final arguments from both defence and prosecution sides, ruling that the latter succeeded in proving its case against the accused.
“The prosecution witnesses identified the accused persons. The course of investigation conducted by IO is upright. There is no lacuna or dent in the case of prosecution. There is direct evidence in shape of depositions of complainant and eyewitness namely Muhammad Faizan,” he observed.
The judge awarded seven-year imprisonment to the convict for offence punishable under Section 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Pakistan Penal Code. The accused, who appeared on bail, was subsequently taken into custody and remanded to the prison for serving out the sentence.
According to the prosecution, complainant Rizwan Slaeem and his nephew Faizan were present outside a house in Korangi’s Sector 48-E when four persons on two motorcycles came there. They looted Rs72,000 from the complainant and Rs1000 and a mobile phone from Muhammad Faizan at gunpoint before speeding away.
The prosecution mentioned that Ammar was identified with the help of the registration number of one of the motorcycles used in the crime, adding that he was a habitual offender as several FIRs involving similar nature of crime had been lodged against him. However, the accused claimed that he was implicated in the present by the police over his failure to pay them a bribe.
