Govt asks opposition to suggest names for PAC chairmanship

ISLAMABAD: The government has contacted the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, for the post of chairman of Public Accounts Committee (PAC), asking him to share a four-person panel out of which one would be the chosen by mutual consultation to head the committee.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Chief Whip in the National Assembly Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has written a letter to the opposition leader for the purpose. In the letter, Dr Tariq stated that it has been the tradition of the House that chair of the PAC is held by the opposition. “The PAC is the primary accountability mechanism envisaged in the Constitution, it requires a person with requisite experience and temperament to head this important committee,” the letter stated.
