Labourer killed in hand grenade blast

LAHORE: A 35-year-old labourer lost his life due to a hand grenade explosion at a scrap warehouse in the Misri Shah area on Friday.

The victim identified as Khalil was engaged in dismantling the grenade when it suddenly detonated, causing him fatal injuries and he died on the spot. Following the incident, Khalil's body was shifted to the mortuary by Edhi ambulance.

99 drug dealers arrested

Punjab Police raided hideouts of drug dealers and smugglers. According to the spokesman for the Punjab Police, more than 200 raids were conducted on the hideouts of drug dealers during the last 24 hours.

In these raids, 99 suspects involved in the heinous trade were arrested, 99 cases were registered while drugs, including 54kg hashish, 1kg heroin and 955 litre liquor were recovered. The spokesperson said that during the anti-narcotics operations that have been ongoing since February 26, more than 33,000 raids were conducted by police teams.

In these raids, 15,945 suspects involved in drug trafficking were arrested, while 15,558 cases registered, he said, adding that more than 9,300kg hashish, 161kg heroin, 269kg opium, besides 45kg ice and more than 1.6 lakh litre liquor were recovered.

Nine die in road accidents in Punjab

The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 1,143 road traffic accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. In these accidents, nine people died, whereas 1,225 were injured. Out of these, 563 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 662 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue medical teams.

269,612 unlicensed drivers ticketed

During a crackdown on underage and unlicensed drivers, 269,612 unlicensed drivers were ticketed so far this year. According to Chief Traffic Officer Amara Athar, fine tickets were issued to 269,612 unlicenced drivers this year.
