ISLAMABAD: Another child has been paralysed by wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) in Shikarpur district of Sindh.
This was announced by Pakistan’s Polio Programme on Saturday. This brings the total number of cases this year in Pakistan to four.
The chief of Pakistan’s Polio Programme, earlier, had resigned due to resurgence of poliovirus in the country.
The regional reference laboratory for polio eradication at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad notified WPV1 was detected from stool samples collected from a 2.5-year-old child from Birkhan UC of Shikarpur.
