IGP orders revamping AVLC to prevent vehicle theft
KARACHI: Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon said on Friday there is an urgent need for comprehensive strategic reforms to effectively prevent vehicle thefts and ensure extraordinary measures in this regard.
He said this while presiding over a meeting on restructuring the Anti Vehicles Lifting Cell (AVLC) at the Central Police Office Karachi.
Memon directed that the CPLC and the Madadgar-15 should not only integrate their system for the registration of complaints and crimes, but also make all measures in this regard concrete and integrated.
He said steps should be taken to register with the AVLC vehicle theft incidents by Madadgar-15, so that the entry of vehicle theft information into the data bank can be quick.
The IGP said a centralized system of the IT Department of the Sindh Police and the CPLC should be formed. The aim is to make crime records integrated and effective in all respects. He directed the AVLC officers to identify the suspects involved in vehicle theft and eliminate the groups and their operatives involved in lifting vehicles. He said the Sindh Smart Surveillance System (S4) should be activated and made effective against crime as soon as possible.
Later, Memon presided over a meeting via video link conference regarding the police station record management system in Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad and Mirpurkhas divisions. The DIGs of Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad and Mirpurkhas gave briefings.
The IGP said a proposal to allocate an adequate budget for police stations in the next financial year is under consideration. The proposal is aimed at making police stations financially independent. He said account and the DDO courses should be conducted for all the head constables so that they can get access to administrative matters as well as financial matters including audits.
He said no stone should be left unturned in arresting drug mafias, absconders and the proclaimed offenders in serious crimes and in this regard inter-linked raiding actions should be intensified while full force should be used to bring the suspects on the run to justice in various cases.
He said that by registering crime/criminal data in PSRMS, we are actually preparing for the future against crime, which will undoubtedly ensure not only elimination of crime and criminals but will also strengthen police measures such as protection of citizens. Memon said murder cases should be taken as a challenge. Moreover, diligent, hardworking and talented officers should be given responsibilities in the police stations, while departmental measures like strict disciplinary action against officers should also be ensured for non-implementation of the policy of free registration of FIRs.
