NOWSHERA: Ten persons, including the bridegroom, in a wedding procession sustained injuries when their bus touched low-lying high transmission electricity wires in Salehkhana area in Nowshera district on Sunday.
Local residents said that the marriage procession of Kabir Khan Khattak was on its way to bring the bride from Salehkhana area in a bus and caravan of cars.The bus, they added, was full to the capacity and it touched the high transmission power line, resulting in a burst of fire and short circuiting. The residents said that the fire and short-circuiting caused serious injuries to some of the merry-making participants named Hassan Sardar, Sufyan, Muhammad Hanan, Wahab, Yawar, Tanveer, Fahad, Shahsawar, Haris, residents of Kotli Kalaan while groom Kabir Khan Khattak and others sustained minor burn injuries.
Soon after the incident, local volunteers rushed to the spot and lifted the live electricity wire from the bus with dry wood to save the precious lives.Ten of the seriously injured persons were first shifted to the Mian Rashid Hussain Memorial Hospital, Pabbi, and later referred to a hospital in Peshawar because of their precarious condition.
Some of the injured, including the groom, were discharged from the hospital in Pabbi after providing first medical aid.The residents said that the injured persons were shifted to the hospital while the bride was also taken in a procession to the home of her groom.
Meanwhile, the residents complained that electricity wires in Salehkhana were very low and they had time and again reported it to the Wapda and Peshawar Electric Supply Company but they did not take action to prevent the occurrence of such fatal incidents.
