ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court will take up next week important cases, including the appeal of the Sunni Ittehad Council against the decision of the Peshawar High Court regarding the reserved seats for women and minorities.
A three-member bench, headed by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Athar Minallah, will hear the case on May 8.
In this context, the appeals of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly speaker are also set for hearing.
The Registrar Office has issued notices to the SIC and the KP Assembly speaker.
The Election Commission had decided not to give specific seats to the SIC, and Peshawar High Court had dismissed the writ petition filed against this decision.
The Sunni Ittihad Council had challenged the decision of the Election Commission and the Peshawar High Court in the Supreme Court, while the KP Assembly speaker filed appeals against the Peshawar High Court decision. Similarly, the apex court has also fixed for hearing the Faizabad sit-in case and a three-member bench of the apex court will resume the hearing on May 6. The bench is headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and comprises Justice Irfan Saadat Khan and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan as members. The court has issued notices to the parties concerned.
