Minister orders probe into collapse of Gujrat DHQ Hospital ward

LAHORE:Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has ordered an inquiry into the death of a woman and injuries of patients in the collapse of a portion of a ward of Gujrat Aziz Bhatti Shaheed DHQ Hospital.

Under the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique and Minister for Communication and Works Malik Shoib Ahmed Bherth and other officers visited Aziz Bhatti Shaheed DHQ Hospital in Gujrat to assess the incident occurred due to heavy weight on a pillar of surgical ward of the hospital.

The district administration of Gujarat and the hospital administration gave a briefing to the ministers on the incident. During the briefing, the administration said repair work on the lower part of the surgical ward and the installation of solar panels on the roof were going on when incident happened.

Deputy Commissioner Safdar Hussain Virk and ADCR Khizr Hayat Bhatti are conducting the inquiry. The minister said a committee has been formed to determine those responsible for the incident.

He said a strict action will be taken against those responsible in the light of the inquiry and recommendations of the committee. The ministers expressed their condolences to the family members of woman Azmat Bibi who died in the incident. He visited the injured patients on behalf of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
