Suspect in Gulshan-e-Iqbal hit-and-run case surrenders, obtains bail
A suspect who had reportedly killed a child two days before Eidul Fitr in Gulshan-e-Iqbal in a hit-and-run case has obtained bail.
The suspect’s family handed him over to the police.
Police said he confessed to the crime before them and consequently, he was produced before a court that granted him bail.
In Gulshan-e-Iqbal before Eid, a Mercedes driver allegedly ran over a woman and her son and escaped.
The Gulshan-e-Iqbal investigation police, however, recovered the car from a farmhouse owned by former SP Farooq Awan who is currently a member of the Sindh Assembly belonging to the Pakistan Peoples Party.
Though the suspect, Furqan Awan, initially went into hiding, his family handed him over to the police.
The father of the suspect was abroad at the time of the accident and upon his return, the family handed the suspect over to the police, said Investigation Officer Yaqoob Sammu.
The officer added that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation, after which the police presented him before a court on Saturday from where he obtained bail.
As a result of the accident, eight-year-old Yusuf was killed and his mother Nooriya was severely injured.
