LAHORE: Two motorcycle riders fatally shot a man who was allegedly involved in the killing of an Indian terrorist Sarabjit Singh in jail in 2013, in the limits of Islampura police on Sunday.
Police said injured Amir Sarfraz Tanba was shifted to hospital but he could not survive.
Police registered a case against the unidentified bike riders on the complaint of Amir’s brother Junaid Sarfraz, cordoned off the area and started searching for the shooters with the help of CCTV footage.
According to the complainant, one of the attackers was wearing a helmet and the other was wearing a mask. The attackers fired three rounds at Tanba.
Amir Tanba and Mudasir Munir had allegedly attacked Sarabjit Singh with bricks and iron rods in Kot Lakhpat jail on April 28, 2013. Sarabjit Singh was sentenced to death for a series of bomb attacks that killed 14 people in Lahore and Faisalabad 1990.
On December 14, 2018, a sessions court in Lahore on acquitted Amir Tanba and Mudasir Munir of the charge of killing Sarabjit Singh and ordered their release after all witnesses retracted their statements.
Tanba, 45, was unmarried and lived with his brothers in a five-marla house in Islampura. He was a spice dealer.
Various shopkeepers told Jang they did not hear any gunshots. Talking to Jang, security sources hinted at involvement of Indian intelligence agency RAW in Tanba’s murder.
