Social worker shot dead
A social worker who was affiliated with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was shot dead in the Rehri Goth area on Friday. The incident took place within the limits of the Sukkan police station. Police said unidentified men opened fire on social worker Ghulam Nabi. He was critically injured as a result of the firing and was later pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital.
Police said the murder appeared to be a result of personal enmity. The deceased man was a retired school headmaster and had affiliations with the PPP, according to his family. He was sitting outside his house with friends when the armed assailants on motorcycles attacked him. He was shot multiple times.
A year ago, Ghulam’s son Noor Nabi was also murdered by the same group, police said, adding that Ghulam Nabi had filed a case regarding his son's murder and even after his son's death, the culprits continued to threaten him. The assailants are believed to be associated with the Qasmani community and have political connections as well.
