The Sindh transport and mass transit department has caught 1,012 vehicles for charging exorbitant fares before Eid. A total amount of Rs2.285 million that had been charged excessively was refunded to passengers and fines totaling Rs732,000 were imposed on the transporters who charged excess fares.

In a statement, the provincial transport department said that under the instructions of Sindh Senior Minister for Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon, it had been carrying out a campaign against the collection of excess fares in coordination with the officers of the Road Transport Authority (RTS), with the support of the traffic police, district police and motorway police.

Memon has emphasised that the government's foremost priority is to provide relief to passengers and ensure fair fares. He stated that the aim of the campaign was to address and resolve the challenges faced by passengers.

The transport minister has warned that stringent measures would be taken against individuals attempting to exploit passengers' vulnerabilities, stressing that those who mistreated passengers would not be granted leniency. He has asked the transporters to uphold ethical standards and prioritise the comfort and safety of passengers during their journeys.
