This refers to the letter ‘Raise the floor’ (April 5, 2024) by Azfar Shamim. I fully endorse the views expressed by the writer. The current minimum EOBI pension is quite meagre and does not match the unprecedented inflation in the country. This situation calls for an immediate raise in the current pension rates to a level where they are at least as high as the monthly minimum wage.
The EOBI is the only source of income for most pensioners and they at least not have to worry about food costs. The prime minister is requested to intervene for early resolution of the issue.
