WANA: A police constable was martyred when unidentified armed men opened fire on the post-polio campaign assessment team in Manra area in Birmil tehsil in Lower South Waziristan district on Friday.
SHO Zabihullah Wazir of Raghzai Police Station said that the post-polio campaign assessment/monitoring team was on a visit to Manra area when unidentified persons fired at the police constable on security duty killing him on the spot. However, the polio monitoring staff escaped unhurt in the firing.
The slain constable was identified as Rahimullah Mehsud belonging to Upper South Waziristan. The police cordoned off the area and started investigation. The anti-polio campaign ended in Lower South Waziristan three days before the start of Ramazan. The team was conducting post-campaign assessment in the area.
