The Federal Investigation Agency’s State Bank Circle (SBC), in collaboration with the Drug Regulatory Authority, has dismantled a two-member syndicate engaged in the illicit trade of unregistered medicines.

The operation, conducted in the Lines Area, marks a crucial step in safeguarding public health. A spokesperson for the Sindh FIA announced on Thursday that the agency, in conjunction with the Drug Regulatory Authority, launched a targeted operation resulting in the apprehension of the culprits responsible for endangering human lives through the sale of counterfeit medicines.

The suspects, identified as Abdul Saud Faisal and Muhammad Asif, were promptly arrested, and a substantial quantity of fake and unregistered drugs was confiscated.

The authorities also seized the machinery and equipment utilized in the production of counterfeit medications. Investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in the manufacturing, packaging, and distribution of counterfeit drugs from their residence, encompassing over 82 different types and brands. These spurious medications purportedly targeted various ailments, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and more.

Preliminary interrogations unveiled that the syndicate had been supplying fake medicines to pharmacies located in upscale areas of Karachi, exacerbating the risk to unsuspecting consumers. Concurrently, efforts are underway to apprehend additional individuals implicated in this illicit enterprise through ongoing raids.
