The project to connect the Orange Line and Green Line corridors of the bus rapid transit (BRT) system is under way and a shuttle service will be initiated to facilitate this connection.
Sindh Senior Minister for Excise, Taxation, Narcotics Control and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon made this announcement while chairing a high-level meeting in Karachi. He mentioned that the federal government had committed to providing 300 buses worth Rs18 billion, and discussions would be held with the Centre regarding the procurement of these buses.
Memon noted that the caretaker government had neglected the Red Line BRT, resulting in project delays. He stressed the need for completing the Red Line BRT promptly to serve the public.
The transport minister said the Sindh government would embark on plans to initiate an inter-city bus service with the procurement of 500 buses for the convenience of the people under the inter-district transport project.
He highlighted the progress of the Yellow Line bus service, expressing optimism that it would soon benefit the public. Additionally, the Sindh government would operate buses from Karachi to Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas to Hyderabad, and Larkana to Sukkur, he added.
The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Kamal Dayo, Trans Karachi Acting CEO Shumaila Mohsin, and officials from the Red Line, Orange Line, Yellow Line, international consultants, and other officers.
