ISLAMABAD: - Joint Director General Intelligence Bureau, Tariq Mehmood, has been conferred with Sitara-e-Shujaat by President Asif Ali Zardari for his valiant services in curbing terrorism. He led several operations while putting his life at risk and made a laudable contribution on the national security front which has been recognized in the form of this award.

A number of operations he carried out successfully were cited as his service to the nation. Included among them was a foiled terror attempt aiming at Parliament. A video was released on social media through which terrorists aired a threatening message to attack the Parliament. It didn’t take IB much time to get to the perpetrators which had shot the video from trailing three of Margalla Hills.

A TTP commander together with six of his accomplices were apprehended by IB in an operation led by Tariq. Terrorists planned to target as many as five strategic installations in Rawalpindi and one important site in the tribal belt. He led another operation to hit terrorists who were planning to carry out subversive activities in Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The agency subsequently arrested the mastermind of suicide attacks along with three accomplices.
