LAHORE: In-form all-rounder Imad Wasim has finally as expected reversed his retirement decision, making himself available for selection in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. to be played in US and the West Indies

The cricketer announced his return on Saturday through a social media post, stating that he reconsidered his retirement following a meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials. “[I am] delighted to declare my availability for Pakistan cricket in T20i format leading up to ICC T20i World Cup 2024,” he wrote.

Imad expressed his appreciation to the PCB for “reposing trust” in him and vowed to give his all for the national team. He emphasized his unwavering dedication by stating, “Pakistan comes first.”

Last November, Wasim announced his retirement, citing the desire to focus on other aspects of his career. However, recent discussions have reignited his passion for playing for Pakistan.

Sources reveal that following the Pakistan Super League (PSL), captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and National Team Chief Selector Wahab Riaz played crucial roles in persuading Wasim to return. Afridi reportedly stressed Imad’s importance to the team, while Riaz congratulated him on his exceptional performance in the PSL.

Imad’s impressive display for Islamabad United, particularly his five-wicket haul in the final, served as a strong reminder of his all-rounder capabilities. This dominant performance undoubtedly influenced the discussions and ultimately led to his decision to return.

With Imad Wasim back in the mix, Pakistan gains a valuable all-rounder for the upcoming T20 World Cup. His experience and versatility will be a significant asset to the team’s World Cup campaign.
