LDA DG inaugurates Miyawaki Forest

LAHORE: Lahore Development Authority Director General Tahir Farooq inaugurated the Miyawaki Forest at LDA Avenue One, F Block under Plant for Pakistan campaign here on Thursday.

Officials said that 6,000 Miyawaki plants were planted in LDA Avenue, F Block. Children from LDA schools also participated in the ceremony. LDA officers, staff and school children planted saplings. LDA Director General also planted saplings near Central Park on Avenue One, Chief Engineer Israr Saeed, Additional DGs and other officers also planted the saplings. Director General LDA Tahir Farooq also distributed free saplings among the residents of Avenue One.

Tahir Farooq said that LDA was distributing saplings at different points of the city absolutely free among citizens. LDA will plant more than 200,000 saplings under this special campaign with the support of private housing schemes.

Later, he launched a plantation drive at Finance and Trade Centre, Johar Town. MNA Saif-ul-Malook Khokhar also planted a sapling. LDA DG said that steps were being taken according to the vision of the CM for the promotion of greenhouses in Lahore.

Saplings planted at UHS

Tree saplings were planted at the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Jinnah Campus on Thursday by faculty, staff, and students as part of the ‘Plant for Pakistan’ campaign initiated by the government on the International Day of Forests, observed worldwide on March 21. Vice-Chancellor Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathore inaugurated the event by planting a Baid Palm sapling. Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Nadia Naseem and Registrar Prof Sarah Ghafoor followed suit by planting Lady Palm and Star Ficus plants, respectively.

The university aims to plant approximately 1,000 trees during this initiative. Addressing the faculty and students, UHS VC emphasised the numerous benefits of trees, highlighting their role in purifying the air. Prof Rathore also inaugurated an Environment Protection and Horticulture Society led by Dr Shah Jahan.
