Shafay seeks UK investment in Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Industry, commerce and trade Shafay Hussain Thursday said that Britain is a major trade partner of Pakistan, but there is a need to increase bilateral trade between the two countries while the Punjab province has great scope for investment.

During a meeting with the Head of Lahore office of the British High Commission Clara Strandhoj at Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) office, the minister said that steps would be taken to increase exports to the UK and enhance the trade cooperation with Britain.

The Punjab province has vast scope for investment in agriculture, energy, technical education and other sectors. The Punjab government will facilitate the British investors to industrial zone and other areas of the province. The minister expressed the commitment to equip the youth with world class technical education so that required manpower for the industry will be available. He said the UK can provide support in the online teachers training programme to the Punjab government. He also informed the UK diplomat about the Ramazan package and other public welfare projects. Strandhoj said that the UK was ready to co-operate on alternative energy sector in the province. She assured of increasing mutual cooperation and bilateral trade with Punjab.
