LAHORE: Punjab Quran Board (PQB) on Wednesday criticised the decision of Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) to reduce print number of Quran “paras” (chapters) from 80 lakh to 30 lakh for students in educational institutions.
At a meeting, chaired by Haji Nazimuddin, the PQB office-bearers and members termed the decision a violation of government policy and the Constitution of Pakistan. They said great efforts have been made for a long time to make recitation and translation of the Quran compulsory subject for students. The government decided to provide students free of charge copies of Quran Paras like other books. But a year after the policy was implemented, the PCTB stopped providing the Quran “paras” to students on the pretext of lack of funds, which was incorrect and illogical since other books print number was not reduced. They demanded the government intervene and change the decision of PCTB.
