The Sindh minister for home, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, said on Monday that the law and order situation in the upper areas of Sindh and Karachi was not satisfactory and efforts to combat dacoits need to be intensified.

He said at a meeting held during his visit to the Central Police Office in Karachi. Officials said IGP Raffat Mukhtar Raja, Karachi Additional IG Khadim Hussain Rind, and other senior police officers welcomed the home minister on his arrival.

The police presented the home minister with a guard of honour and the minister laid flowers at the memorial for the martyrs in the CPO and offered Fateha for them. The IGP briefed the minister on the law and order situation in the province and police measures related to it. The SSPs from all districts of the province were also present in the meeting.

Lanjar said it is imperative to rid the areas of Kashmore, Ghotki and Shikarpur districts of dacoits. He addressed the officers, stating that those SSPs who failed to perform their duties would be replaced.

Moreover, the transfers and postings of SHOs would be conducted by the SSPs of all districts, including Karachi, who would be held accountable for their performance. The Sindh IGP also briefed the minister about the Karachi Safe City Project, saying that cameras were being installed under the Sindh Smart Surveillance System (S4) on internal and external routes of the city.

Cameras have also been installed on various roads and highways in line with the concept of community policing. The home minister also met with newly appointed SSPs from various districts of Sindh, assessed the performance of newly promoted SPs through DSPs, and expressed good wishes.
