HEC chairman urges steps to prevent children from misusing social media

An awareness session was held on Friday morning at the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) regarding objectionable material circulating on social media.

Addressing the event through virtual means, Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed stated that children engaging in inappropriate activities on social media were not solely responsible for their acts as the responsibility also lay with the educators, intellectuals, and religious scholars of our generation.

He stressed the need for educating the children about right and wrong and opined that denying the benefits of technology was not the solution. Through video link, the awareness session was simultaneously conducted at both campuses of Dow University. At the Ojha Campus, it was held at Abdul Qadeer Khan Auditorium and at the DMC Campus, it was held at the main auditorium.

DUHS Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammad Saeed Quraishy Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Nazli Hossain, Registrar Ashar Afaque, Dow Medical College Principal Prof Saba Sohail and other professors and students participated in large numbers at the session at the DMC Campus.

Similarly, at the Ojha Campus, Dow International Medical College Principal Prof Zeba Haq participated in the session along with professors and students. The HEC chairman addressed the session from Islamabad. He said seeing children going beyond their limits on social media was alarming and there was an urgent need for serious measures to prevent it.
