Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Saturday held a high-level meeting regarding the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).
The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zaman, Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) Managing Director Kamal Dayo, acting chief executive officer of Trans Karachi Shamaila Mohsin, Trans Karachi General Manager Pir Sajjad Sirhandi, international consultants and others.
Memon said the project had already faced significant delays and further delays could not be tolerated.
He said that completing the project expeditiously was essential to address the public concerns. He stressed the need for increased efforts to ensure the project's timely completion and deliver its benefits to the people.
The Red Line project is approximately a 29-kilometre corridor, extending from Model Colony in Malir in the northeast of the port city to Mazar-e-Quaid and Jinnah Avenue in its southwest, where it will intersect at Numaish with the Green Line BRT corridor.
The route of the Red Line will pass through 13 major intersections and a total of 24 bus stops will be located along it where entry and exit points will be provided. Ten overheads and seven underpasses have also been included in the BRT’s plan, which are under construction. Separate consultants have been hired for the three tasks of the operational design, detail design, and institutional development and capacity building of the project.
