KARACHI: Pakistan’s rising golf star Ahmad Baig added yet another feather to his cap when he won the Lexus Challenge 2024 -- an Asian Development Tour (ADT) event -- in Vietnam on Friday.
Lahore’s Ahmad, who is widely regarded as the brightest star on Pakistan’s golf horizon, carded a stunning score of 65 in the final round of the Lexus Challenge, winning the title by two strokes. He finished with a 54-hole aggregate of 206 (-7), ahead of Thailand’s contender.
The big-hitting Ahmad was at his brilliant best in the three-day championship held at The Bluffs Grand Ho Tram, a challenging course designed by legendary Australian golfer Greg Norman.
Starting the day three flights and three shots behind the leaders, Ahmad displayed exceptional skill and determination, stringing together an impressive series of five birdies early in the round to assert his dominance. Despite facing challenging conditions, including strong winds, Ahmad maintained his composure and delivered a stellar performance, making crucial birdies throughout the round.
“I’m really pleased with my performance,” said Ahmad, who has been on a winning streak this season having won a series of national-level titles at home. He is now aiming to win more glory on the Asian Development Tour with the hope of qualifying for the lucrative Asian Tour.
