LAHORE: Scattered rain was witnessed in the City here on Monday while the Met office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.

The rain started in the afternoon and continued till night. Following the scattered rain, on the instructions of Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Wasa MD Ghafran Ahmed instructed Wasa Lahore to be active and all staff and machinery should be fully alert.

He also instructed to keep screens of all disposal stations thoroughly clean and all generators should be kept on standby and active. Met officials said a westerly wave was affecting northeastern Balochistan while another westerly wave was likely to enter western parts from today (Tuesday) and likely to grip most upper parts of the country tomorrow (Thursday).

They predicted that cold and dry weather was expected in most parts of the country. However, rain-wind/thunderstorm (snowfall over hills) was likely in Balochistan, upper Sindh, Islamabad, south Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas.

Monday’s minimum temperature was recorded at Leh and Kalam where mercury dropped to -04°C while in Lahore, it was 12.6°C and maximum was 26°C. Meanwhile, according to the PDMA spokesperson, there is a possibility of heavy rains across Punjab from March 11 to 14 which will increase the intensity of cold while torrential rains may affect transport in mountainous areas. PDMA has issued an alert to the administration of the districts concerned.
