The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed K-Electric to submit comments on a petition filed against unannounced power load-shedding in the Patel Para area of Karachi.

Waqf Shah claimed in the petition that Patel Para is the worst-affected area due to load-shedding, as power supply is not being provided to the locality for several hours. Shah claimed that the area residents are paying 79 per cent of the tariff but they have been joined with another feeder, resulting in their facing around 11 hours of daily power outages.

An SHC division bench headed by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar asked the K-Electric’s counsel why the residents of the area are being deprived of electricity despite their paying bills. The counsel said that load-shedding is being carried out in high-loss areas to avoid further loses. He said KE is taking action against electricity theft and registering FIRs against those involved.

He sought time from the court to file comments on the petition. The high court also directed the K-Electric to submit comments with regard to load-shedding in the area on the next date of hearing.
