MARDAN: A cop deputed for the polio team security was injured when unidentified miscreants opened fire on him in the Pirsadi area of Mardan district on Tuesday, police officials said.
It was learnt that unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire on the cop who was performing duty during the anti-polio campaign and escaped from the scene.
The incident happened when the anti-polio workers were about to enter a house in the Pirsadi area of Takht Bahi tehsil for vaccination as a part of the ongoing five-day anti-polio campaign.
The injured cop was identified as Zohar Qayyum. He was shifted to the Mardan Medical Complex where his condition was stated to be stable.
The police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation but no arrests were made till the filing of this report.
