Woman rights activist from KP honoured
PESHAWAR: A noted woman rights activist from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and founder of Da Hawwa Lur organization, Khurshid Bano, has been honoured with the Women Leader Award 2024.
The award has been extended in recognition of her dedication and efforts for advancing the rights of women and marginalized communities.A communication said Khurshid Bano has always aspired for a change in KP and overcome numerous challenges. She became the first women’s union leader in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 1994.
Her pioneering spirit led to the establishment of the first all-women’s union in the province in 2015, which serves as a platform for raising awareness about the myriad challenges faced by women, including unequal pay, harassment, inadequate maternity leave, and a lack of essential amenities for women workers.
An alumna of the International Peace Maker Programme at the University of San Diego, Khurshid Bano has been recognized for her contributions with numerous awards, including from the Ministry of Social Welfare in 2012, AASHA in 2014, and the Women Peace Maker Award in San Diego in 2016.
