LAHORE:The 78th meeting of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Syndicate was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof Ahsan Waheed Rathore, where amendments were approved to the oath administered to new medical graduates.
The updated oath now encompasses 11 points, emphasising commitments such as collaborative healthcare practices and opposition to policies infringing upon patient rights. Additionally, it includes resolutions to foster continuous medical education, rectify professional errors, and uphold ethical standards.
Moving forward, all medical colleges will administer this standardised oath to graduates during convocations, mandating their agreement before receiving degrees. In this regard, UHS VC stated that professionalism, ethics, and the protection of patient rights have already been incorporated into the new modular curriculum. He emphasised that the amendments to the doctors' oath were necessary in line with modern concepts of medical education. Additionally, upon the recommendation of the Board of Studies Allied Health Sciences, approval was granted to allocate quota in the BS programmes for dispensers and technicians. Five percent of seats have been reserved in UHS BS
programmes for diploma holders from Punjab Medical Faculty.
