The mystery behind the murder of a seven-year-old boy, Abhan, who was found in bushes in Federal B Area on Wednesday with his throat slit, has been solved as the police arrested his teenage cousin on Friday.
Fifteen-year-old Sufyan was arrested with the help of CCTV footage. He later confessed to the crime. Abhan was brutally murdered in Federal B Area Block 16. Sufyan who lived in the samehouse had earlier said that after Abhan had returned from school on Wednesday afternoon, someone knocked the door and the boy opened it. He was later found fatally injured in bushes nearby, the cousin had claimed.
The police initiated an investigation. Initially they recorded statements of six women. After the CCTV footage was obtained, the police arrested Sufyan.
It was revealed that the suspect lived with his maternal uncle who was Abhan’s father. According to the culprit’s statement, after going to work, Abhan’s father and mother used to leave the children unattended.
Sufyan said he was angry with Abhan because the boy used to complain about him to his father who was the suspect’s uncle. The teenager told the police that he killed the boy with a knife that was in the kitchen of the house.
District Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqui stated that experts had been appointed for the investigation into Abhan’s murder. He explained that more than 40 videos were collected from various CCTV cameras installed near the victim’s residence and the bushes where the injured boy was found.
Footage from cameras at the hospital where the boy was shifted was also obtained. The mobile phone record of suspicious individuals near the victim’s house was also obtained, the SSP said, adding that geo-fencing of the area from the victim’s house to the bushes was also carried out.
The police said the culprit took Abhan from the street to a park where he slaughtered him near a pond and left the boy in bushes near the main gate.
The culprit mentioned that after the murder, he kept the knife back in the kitchen after washing it.
