LAHORE:Executive Council of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Lahore has expressed concern over the caretaker Federal Ministry of Health’s decision to allow pharmacists to prescribe minerals and multi-vitamins.
Pakistan Medical Association office-bearers and executive council, in an emergent meeting held here at PMA House, Thursday, said that vitamins are an essential component of the prescription in chronic diseases. It is a universal medical practice and principle that only qualified doctors are authorised to prescribe multivitamins and minerals because only doctors know the actual diagnosis and implications of treatment of the disease. They demanded the Ministry of Health withdraw the order this regard.
