Nawaz entitled to 4th term: Irfan Siddiqui
Siddiqui said that 101 members (of PTI-backed independent MNAs) cannot make a government
LAHORE: PML supremo’s aide Irfan Siddiqui has said Nawaz Sharif is entitled to become the premier for the fourth term for having served in this capacity thrice.
Speaking in Geo News election transmission, Siddiqui said, “We are the largest party. Our party has the right (to make government) and there should be no controversy over it.” Siddiqui said, “In case of simple majority, there wouldn’t have been any two opinions. (In the given situation) we don’t want to announce unilaterally who would be the PM (candidate), be he Nawaz Sharif or else). It should be announced in a joint press conference,” he said. He said the PMLN will announce its candidate for the prime minister after due consultation within the party.
Siddiqui said that 101 members (of PTI-backed independent MNAs) cannot make a government and PMLN will not object if the president invites them to make the government. If they fail, the PMLN would be free to do its bit, he added.
To a question, he said the PMLN lost political capital when it acquired the baggage of PTI government. To another question, he said the PMLN’s performance may not be up to the mark but it was not disappointing either. He added if no party was able to form the government, the assembly would have to be dissolved and the country would face a new crisis. This was the responsibility of political parties to save the country and that was why the PMLN was ready to sit with others for forming a coalition government.
