ECP failed to hold transparent elections, says MWM leader
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has failed to conduct transparent elections in the city, said Sindh Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) President Allama Baqir Abbas Zaidi.
In various areas of the city, he said, the political parties' agents resorted to the worst rigging, but the election commission and law enforcement agencies were nowhere to be seen in this situation.
In a statement issued from the Wahdat House, Karachi, he said that the election commission and law enforcement agencies had failed to implement adequate measures for the general elections.
The MWM participated in the elections and supported various candidates throughout Sindh, he remarked. He, however, added that it seemed that political coercion occurred even before the elections with the announcement of seats for two parties in the province and city leadership.
They said the polling stations in the city were extremely sensitive, but the law enforcement agencies remained completely absent. There were numerous complaints regarding multiple incidents of electoral irregularities and stamping, but the election commission and law enforcement agencies did not take note of these incidents, he maintained.
Zaidi was of the view that the people rejected landlords, feudal lords and corrupt parties through their votes but the covert machinery changed the results during the abnormal delay in the announcement of the results which had raised suspicions about the transparency of the ECP.
They said that despite all the events, the MWM was grateful to the people of the province for the trust they have placed in the party as they voted for its electoral symbol and visited its camps to support its candidates.
