Karachi Jamaat-e-Islami emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman asked the relevant state organs to play their due role over violations of the ECP’s code of conduct during the general elections on Thursday.
Addressing an emergency press conference held at the JI headquarters Idara-e-Noor-e-Haq, he said the JI sent letters to the Election Commission of Pakistan, expressing its concerns about the “illegal and unconstitutional support” for the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan in the polls proved true.
The MQM-P was provided with ballot papers in advance and those papers were later used in the rigging process, he alleged. The JI leader added that dozens of polling stations were captured by armed men in the presence of police and Rangers personnel, but unfortunately the law enforcers played the role of just spectators.
He also condemned the government for suspending internet and mobile services despite earlier assurances against such a practice. He said social media platforms had been flooded with videos of mismanagement, irregularities and lawlessness during and after the polling process, but the ECP and the state did nothing.
