The victim, who also used to run a business regarding sale and purchase of textile machinery, was identified as 50-year-old Shaukat Nagori, son of Anwar Nagori. A few years ago, he married a woman who cannot speak or hear. They had a minor daughter.

With his death, the death toll in the city due to the recent rainfall has risen to three.

The body was recovered within the limits of the Tipu Sultan Police Station on Monday. Rescuers recovered the body and transported it to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Police said the deceased was a resident of Shah Latif Town and probably fell into a drain during the heavy rainfall on Saturday night when he was going back home from work.

His friend Faisal talked to the media outside the hospital. He said he and the deceased used to work together. “I dropped Shaukat on Sharea Faisal on Saturday night as per routine after work from where Shaukat went home via bus,” said Faisal.

He added that Faisal did not reach home while the family and friends continued to search him on Sunday and finally, they found his body on Monday.

Earlier on Sunday, the body of a 45-year-old man, Fakhr Alam, who was the father of five daughters and worked in a dyeing factory, was recovered from a drain in Baldia Town.

Another man, Bashir Khan, a ragpicker, was carrying his cart in the Manghophir area when he fell into a deep pit filled with rainwater and drowned.
