39 more PTI workers sent to jail in Teen Talwar case

An anti-terrorism court on Thursday remanded 39 more workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in jail custody in a case pertaining to violence during a rally at Teen Talwar.

The investigating officer produced the 39 detained suspects before the administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts and requested their physical remand for interrogation. However, the judge turned down his plea and sent the PTI activists to prison.

On Wednesday, the judge had remanded 30 activists of the party in judicial custody. Around a dozen of them have moved applications seeking post-arrest bail in the case.

Dozens of PTI leaders and workers, along with 5,000 unnamed others, have been booked following violence during the Teen Talwar rally.

An FIR has been registered at the Frere police station under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 353 (deter public servant from discharge of duty), 324 (attempted murder), 337-A (shajjah), 395 (dacoity), 427(causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) read with Section 7 (punishment for acts of terrorism) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
