This was disclosed by Dr Javed Iqbal Khan, chairman, Provincial Doctors Association Haripur chapter, during a ceremony here on Friday.

He said that the CPSP had established a regional centre in Abbottabad for the specialised training of doctors and as part of the training certain numbers of the future’s specialists would have to undergo final training before their fellowship at the periphery hospitals.

Dr Javed Iqbal Khan said that Haripur DHQ was also listed as a teaching hospital for those trainee medical officers (TMOs) or the trainee specialists.

During their final practical training, he said, the TMOs from gyne, medical, cardiology and orthopedic departments would spend the mandatory period of six months.

He said the addition of TMOs to the four departments would help improve the healthcare services by shouldering the burden of existing strength of specialists.

Dr Javed Iqbal hoped that declaring DHQ Haripur as teaching hospital for TMOs in the four main areas would help reduce dependence on the tertiary care facilities of Abbottabad and other cities that mostly treat the patients from Haripur in emergency situations.

District Health Officer Dr Nasir Shah, Dr Sajjad Khan, Dr Atiq, Dr Tahir Angez, Dr Akhtar Zaman and Zakir Tanoli were among those who spoke to the participants on this occasion.
