Increasing trend in perishable items’ prices persists

LAHORE:Increasing trend in the prices of all essential perishable items persisted on the fourth consecutive week as the onion rates reached to the highest level of the season.

Following the increase in the export of locally produced onion and re-export of Afghani onion due to restriction of exports imposed by the neighbouring India to stabilise its rate in her country, exports of onion from Pakistan has picked up which increased its local prices. 

The price of onion in the local markets has touched the level of Rs300 per kilogram while the official rates are still fixed at Rs245 per kilogram for A-category variety. Further, the escalation on Pak-Iran border has also given an excuse to the hoarders to push the rates of onion owing to suspension of border trade. However, officially, the bilateral trade between Pakistan-Iran did not halt even a day after the escalation. Similarly, smooth trade from Afghanistan also continued and fresh arrival of onion from there has also been uninterrupted. Furthermore, the rates of all vegetables and fruits increased this week alongside with chicken meat prices.

This week price of chicken increased by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs423-439 per kg, sold at Rs470-490 per kg, and chicken meat by Rs22 per kg, fixed at Rs637 per kg, and sold at Rs660-1,300 per kg.

The price of potato soft skin new A-grade was reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs42-45 per kg, B-grade reduced by Rs2 per kg, fixed at Rs37-40 per kg, and C-grade fixed at Rs32-35 per kilogram, mixed sold at Rs60-80 per kg.

The price of onion A-grade increased by Rs60 per kg, fixed at Rs235-245 per kg, sold at Rs300 per kg, B-grade gained by Rs45 per kg, fixed at Rs210-220 per kg, sold at Rs250 per kg, and C-grade fixed at Rs190-200 per kg, sold at Rs220 per kg.

The price of tomato A-grade increased by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs133-140 per kg, sold at Rs200 per kg, B-grade fixed at Rs115-120 per kg, sold at Rs140-150 per kg, and C-grade fixed at Rs105-110 per kg, sold at Rs120-130 per kg. The price of garlic local gained by Rs90 per kg, at Rs510-530 per kg, sold at Rs600 per kg, and Garlic China reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs525-540 per kg, sold at Rs800 per kg.

The price of Ginger Thai reduced by Rs60 per kg, fixed at Rs465-485 per kg, sold at Rs600 per kg, Garlic Indonesia gained by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs320-335 per kg, sold Rs500 per kg. Cucumber Farm increased by Rs30 per kg, fixed at Rs120-125 per kg, sold at Rs200 per kg. Brinjal price gained by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs100-105 per kg, sold at Rs150-180 per kg. Bitter gourd price increased by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs240-250 per kg, sold at Rs500 per kg. The price of Spinach farm increased by Rs22 per kg, fixed at Rs62-65 sold at Rs80-100 per kg, spinach local by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs72-75 per kg, sold at Rs120 per kg.

Zucchini farm increased by Rs40 per kg, fixed at Rs125-130 per kg, sold at Rs180-200 per kg, and Zucchini long by Rs45 per kg, fixed at Rs115-120 per kg, sold at Rs200 per kg. The price of lemon China gained by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs67-70 per kg, sold at Rs120-160 per kg. Pumpkin was further increased by Rs30 per kg, fixed at Rs130-135 per kg, not sold. Green chili price A-grade reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs145-150 per kg, sold at Rs200 per kg, B-grade gained by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs90-95 per kg, sold at Rs160 per kg.Capsicum price further gained by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs210-220 per kg, sold at Rs300-320 per kg. Price of cauliflower was reduced by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs95-100 per kg, sold at Rs150 per kg, cabbage gained by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs110-115 per kg, sold at Rs160-200 per kg.

Carrot Chinese unchanged at Rs120-125 per kg, sold at Rs250 per kg, carrot local reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs50-53 per kg, sold at Rs70-100 per kg. Arum was gained by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs172-180 per kg, not sold.

The price of different variety of apples fixed at Rs60-295 per kg, sold at Rs250-500 per kg. The price of Banana A-category further increased by Rs5 per dozen, fixed at Rs150-155 per dozen, sold at Rs200 per dozen, and B-category fixed at Rs95-100 per dozen, sold at Rs140-150 per dozen, and C-category fixed at Rs70-75 per dozen, sold at Rs120-130 per dozen. Pomegranate danaydar gained by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs375-390 per kg, sold at Rs500 per kg, Pomegranate khandahri fixed at Rs300-310 per kg, sold at Rs400-500 per kg, Pomegranate bedana gained by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs610-630 per kg, sold at Rs800-1,000.

Guava was fixed at Rs68-135 per kg, sold at Rs130-250 per kg. Fruiter was increased by Rs10 per dozen, fixed at Rs95-170 per dozen, sold at Rs220-250 per dozen. Citrus fruit was unchanged at Rs85-175 per dozen, sold at Rs200-300 per dozen.
