The CDA board has decided that the project will be awarded to government construction companies instead of open tender. Under Section 42F of the PPRA Rules, there will be a competition for the project among three government construction companies, FWO, NLC and RailCorp. Tenders have been invited from the companies till January 25. Letters have been written to the three companies. The tender will be opened on January 26.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar will lay the foundation stone of the project. The project will be constructed by the Directorate of Markets and Road Maintenance. The PC-1 of the project has been approved. The CDA chairman has given technical approval of the estimated cost. The cost of this project has been estimated at Rs2.42 billion.

Along this track, 30 steel bridges will also be constructed for which a separate contract would be awarded to the Heavy Mechanical Complex Taxila. The cost estimates for these bridges are being finalised.

The project will be completed in 18 months. The aim of the track is to discourage the use of cars in the federal capital and encourage the use of e-bikes. It aims to reduce environmental pollution and promote healthy lifestyles.

Under the project, cycle tracks will be constructed along all roads and avenues of Islamabad. Cycle stations will also be constructed to park them.
