Canada issues travel advisory for Pakistan

Canadian High Commission has instructed Canadian citizens to exercise extreme caution due to unpredictable security situation in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: According to diplomatic sources in Islamabad, the Canadian government has issued a travel advisory for those wishing to travel to Pakistan and for the safety of Canadian citizens in Pakistan.

The Canadian High Commission has instructed the Canadian citizens to exercise extreme caution due to the unpredictable security situation in Pakistan, avoid unnecessary travel, and avoid travelling to the border areas of Pakistan. 

The Canadian High Commission has also instructed them to avoid travel to areas within 50kms of the Afghanistan border, and within 10kms of the borders of China, India and Iran, and avoid unnecessary travel to the Karachi city due to the threat of violence and terrorism.

The Canadian government has also recommended safety measures for its citizens, including avoiding areas where demonstrations and large gatherings are taking place, and always being aware of your surroundings in public places, and carrying photo identification at all times. It suggested to the Canadian citizens to be prepared to change their travel plans at short notice, stay tuned to local media to keep abreast of the changing situation and follow the instructions of local authorities.
