DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Opposing the call for delaying the polls, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Secretary Information and former deputy speaker of National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi on Tuesday said the next general election should be

held on time.

Speaking at a press conference, he said that some elements were trying to escape from the political arena, therefore, they were talking about the delay in holding the polls. He said the PPP was ready for contesting the elections and wanted the polls should be held on February 8 as per the schedule.

On this occasion, local political workers Malik Tariq and Maliz Raziq of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf announced joining the PPP along with their supporters. Faisal Kundi said that on the one hand, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl was claiming that the party would form the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman would become the President of Pakistan, but on the other hand the party was escaping from the elections. He alleged that most of the JUIF people were serving in the caretaker government in the province.

He said that the security situation had been poor for the last several years so this should not be used as a pretext to get the polls postponed. The loyalists of Maulana Fazlur Rahman were sitting in the SNGPL and Pesco, he added.

He maintained that the Maulana was least bothered about the uplift of Dera Ismail Khan. He said that if came to power, the PPP would give Kissan Cards to the farmers and extend the Benazir Income Support Programme. He expressed the hope that the PPP would win the next election and form its government.
