Dr Shehzad Jeeva named Int’l Baccalaureate’s Global Chief Education Officer

Dr Shehzad Jeeva, the respected head of the Aga Khan University Examination Board, has been named as International Baccalaureate's Global Chief Educational Officer, marking a historic turning point in the global education scene.

This landmark choice by the organisation, known for administering the baccalaureate exam in 160 nations, marks a key milestone in international education.

Dr Shehzad Jeeva, a notable person in the educational field, will officially take over on January 2, 2024. His role's headquarters will be in The Hague, Netherlands, where he will be expected to lend his knowledge to further improving the worldwide educational scene.

This appointment is not just a personal victory for Dr Jeeva, but it is also a watershed moment for Pakistan, as he is the first Pakistani to be named Global Chief Educational Officer by an international examination body. This achievement demonstrates the country's expanding global influence and achievements in the sphere of education.

With a presence in 160 countries, the International Baccalaureate serves the educational needs of over 2 million students across 5,500 schools. The organisation provides a variety of programmes, including basic and middle school programmes, diploma programmes, and career-related programmes.

Notably, the International Baccalaureate diploma programmes are quite popular in Pakistan, helping students' academic and personal development.

Dr Shehzad Jeeva is a major supporter of education reform in Pakistan, serving on many high-level strategic government education ministries at both the provincial and federal levels. He is regarded as the country's foremost educationist, and he plays an important role in policy decisions to promote education in Pakistan. The government of Pakistan praised his visionary leadership and contributions in the field of education, particularly during the COVID-19 issue. He also serves as the Chairman of a national-level government institution, as a member of the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen, and as a member of the boards of several significant public institutions in the country. He is also the Vice President of the International Association for Educational Assessment's Board of Trustees.
