‘Lack of facilities hampering mango export’
From Our Correspondent
MULTAN: Pakistan has rich potential for exporting its mango due to unique taste but lack of export facilities is a hurdle to accomplish the target.
It was said by Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asif Ali while giving briefing to journalists on the varsity’s research on mango production after the visit of Korean Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Song Jong Hwan to the university on Wednesday. The VC urged the government to provide maximum facilities to enhance mango export. The VC said that the Korean ambassador visited the university and appreciated the university’s services rendered in the research field. He said that mango was being wasted due to inadequate preservation facilities. Mango was very popular around the globe but in Pakistan it was only being used for eating and growing, he added. VC Prof Dr Asif Ali said that his prime goal was to boost education standards at the MNSUA and bringing it equal to the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. He asked agriculture experts to utilise Korean modern technology in agriculture sector to increase per acre yield. He said that the experts should follow three pronged Korean policy, which includes development and progress of villages and working on self-help basis. The VC said that the MNSUA had introduced farmers’ advisory services on daily basis to provide them latest information on crops, climate and water.
