SHO suspended after son’s firing video goes viral
An SHO was suspended on Thursday after his son blatantly disregarded the law.
Police high-ups decided to suspend Shah Faisal Colony SHO Waseem Siddiqui after a video of celebratory gunfire allegedly carried out by his son went viral on social media.
The firing incident occurred on December 25 during the celebration of the SHO's son's birthday inside the police station. Taking note of the video, police authorities suspended SHO Siddiqui.
The police officer's son allegedly celebrated his birthday at the police station, and then, using official firearms, engaged in firing in the air.
After the video of the incident went viral on social media, the Korangi SSP took notice of it. After an investigation into negligence and irresponsibility, the SHO was suspended from his position.
The incident also sheds light on why police have failed to control crime in Karachi. If SHOs allow private celebrations and illegal firing in police stations, this shows police force must introspect and check whether they are making appointments on merit.
